Pictures of learning situations
The students were to put together a collage which was to explain their view of the concept of tourism.
We started the semester by letting the students get to know Gothenburg. They were divided into groups and each group got their own part of the city. They then did a presentation in front of the class, presenting their part of the city; what to do and see etc.
This photo is taken at an activity center for seniors in Gothenburg. Our program is involved in a project where "younger meets older". This is one way of teaching our students to interact with different target groups.
At this particular session the students had put together a quiz about the history of Gothenburg. It was very appreciated!

Hello Malin! Fun to see the activities that you involve the young students in! What is the program? And how many students do you have in a first-year class?
ReplyDeleteHi! The program is Tourism & Hospitality and I have 15 students in one class. We do however, work together with the other class quite a lot, which makes up a total of 30 students.
DeleteI see! So you have two classes Tourism and Hospitality at your school? This is a rather popular program, I guess. How many are girls of the 30?
DeleteI have a question after having looked at Mamita's Photo 5, and reading about the unit "Working in a Socially Diverse Environment". Are there any such courses in the Swedish Tourism&Hospitality Program in Upper Secondary Education?
Out of the 30 students, there are only two boys, which is a shame. But in the last class I tought, there were mostly boys, so it differs from year to year.
DeleteWe have no one course that is about this subject only, but we have a course that is about how to greet your customer, and in this course we talk a lot about cultures and their differences.
I have been with Malin and her class and I have to say that you a great to find out interesting tasks for the students :)
ReplyDeleteThanx Maria :-)
ReplyDeleteWe try to use several different approaches, so that all students have a chance to learn. One important aspect is to get out in "the real world".
How do you get inspired for new tasks Malin ??
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get your idea from ??
Don´t actually know... It could be anything from watching a TV-show to walking down the street in Gothenburg. But the hard part is not to figure out tasks, it is to make the task suitable for the goals in a course.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to have other forms of assessment other than a written case study
ReplyDeleteYes, it works really well with the students. Even if they don´t really admit it at first, they all love a little craft work and they can be really creative!
