Celebrating different cultures. Here the student is learning to wear a sari (Indian attire). The  Diploma of Tourism course has 33 units and they include units such as Working in a Socially Diverse Environment, Managing Quality Customer Service, Conflict Resolution and Destinations. At the college, we have Cultural Day where the students dress up in  ethnic costumes(a change from their business attire uniform) and bring a plate of food to share with the rest of the class. We have found this very beneficial for the students as it creates harmony and understanding among different cultures.

Students on a site seeing excursion after a site inspection of the cruise. Since the students are doing Diploma of Tourism, they learn about all aspects of the Tourism industry. Site Inspection was for the Majestic Cruises Show Boat at Darling Harbour. Some of the students would like to work in cruising and this was an apt opportunity for them to get a glimpse of it. The Rhapsody of the Sea cruise liner was in the harbour as well and the students were amazed!

Students putting up maps for Destinations units in the classroom. They worked in groups for a project and presentation on a destination of their choice.

One of the two computer labs at our campus. Students seen here are doing the online computer reservations systems (Galileo) course. The students do this for three hours a week for almost 30 weeks. They started in May and are now almost at the end of the course. The first two out of 40 students  successfully completed Galileo this week.

My Work space at Burgårdens Utbildningscentrum

This is my work space. There are 8 of us sharing an office. This is both good and bad really, since you on one hand can discuss anything and everything, but on the other hand you rarely sit by yourself.

I have had a trainee in a bank in a rural town one hour north of WCIT. This is a photograph of the spring countryside near the town of Gingin.

Traineeships in Certificate III in Business are delivered to students in their workplace. This is an opportunity for young people to earn while they learn, and the employee receives financial incentives to have a trainee on staff. Severl of my current trainees are employed in the hospitality industry in hotel management. Every few months I visit them in their workplace to conduct assessments based on the work they perform as part of their daily activities.
