We have students from different cultures and here they are making specific food from their home countries. A mix of Iran, Thailand, Colombia, Libanon, Russia, France and Sweden...

  1. In Australia we have students from many different cultures too. It is always good to give students opportunities to share their particular cultural backgrounds. We often have events like this one and it seems to help everyone understand each other better. Do you find this?

  2. Yes, that´s in the same way here in Sweden. We do the best to make the students from different countries get together to understand each other. But they prefer to eat their own food and are very proud of the traditions och tastes from their culture.

    1. Hi Mats

Just after the first Gulf War i had an Iranian and Iraqui man in the same class. One day discussion moved to war, and I wondered what might happen with these two who had been on opposite sides during the early gulf wars. They both had lost loved ones and agreed that war was not good for anyone.

    3. It could be sensitive depending where they are from but many conflicts happens and then it´s very important to solve the problems right away. Different religions but from the same country could be a problem.

  4. That is a very interesting question Mats.
I can see in the classes that I have been involved with, that they divide themselfs into groups depending which culture they are from. I haven´t seen any hostility when they are in class though.

    1. We teach all students in Swedish but of course they speak their own language when talking to a person with the same culture. It´s important to get used to the swedish society and get in to the system.
