This is a typical computer lab, and shows Certificate III in Busines students doing research on critical-thought blockers. We also have a mobile computer lab, with 16 laptops, that can be used in a regular classroom. Cert III students are typically recent school leavers, aged 15 - 17, who are unsure of their career paths. We offer career advice and job-seeking planning to all students at WCIT.

  1. Hi Beverley! A great series of photos!
I wonder about the students with Cert III. Maybe a stupid question - but does that mean that they have passed CertI and CertII? I was wondering as you wrote that some students are early school leavers. Have they come back and done CertI and CertII? How long does one study CertIII?

  2. Certificate III is considered the entry level for students who have their MER (minimum entry requirement). this is completion of Year 10 at high school, so the students are at least 15 years old. Fulltime education or employment in Australia is compulsory until you are 18 - you can study at school til the end of Year 12 (final year), get a full time job, or study at TAFE or other training institutes.
Certificates 1 & 2 are sometimes offered as additional subjects for school-based learners who do not wish to enter high-level university courses at the end of Year 12. Students attend TAFE 1 day a week and in the course of the year achieve their Certificate 1 or 2. Certificate III if studied full time is a 6 month course.

  3. Here in Sweden there are some problems with having computers in the classroom such as the students get distracted with facebook and computer failings that takes a lot of the classes time.
What is your experience about computers in class? Any problems or is there only advantages?
